It's just oolong...

( first his students now this guy )

I get up at unreliable times, so you ought to arrive with the food at 5 or 6 am to be safe. Takes me a while to get out of bed, too. Maybe 7 or 8 am...

That's too bad. I haven't had someone cook me a meal in a long time.

More importantly, I suspect the real reason you're asking is ready and you're willing to share.

Let's hear it.

( ... spahk... )

So, you were just saying that. About this being scientific.

Well, you can tell Chris I'm a guest, but I don't need special treatment. He should know how military types are.

( starfleet is military, as loath as some of them are to admit it. his duties, however, extend well beyond that. )

I can be many things, one of which is low maintenance.

I'm not as stubborn as you or him, though, so you have me beat.

What am I in for?

Sounds like I can access that from my room, so I approve. Not that I don't want to meet his crew, I just have a lot of work to do.

( sounds pretentious.............. )

Are you programming it, or should I expect someone else?

So, you're the CSO and proficient with code.

( frequently comorbid in their line of work, and spock's level requires that knowledge. still, credit where credit is due. all he knows is how to fight.

a waste of an iq, his comrades used to tell him. )

Are you joining us on the mission?

Finest ship in the fleet.

( a textbook answer, the kind given in interviews and exchanged as a nicety. )

I know your captain and his first officer. They're solid, and they've got good instincts. I don't know you.

My people are xenophobic, they distrust anything outside of what they've been raised to believe. I need diplomats, but there's a real threat negotiations will break down. In the event of a firefight, only the best will cut it. No itchy trigger fingers, no one weak in the knees. Professionals.

That goes for the talks, too.

I've never heard anyone talk his way out of a bad situation faster than Christopher Pike. Have you?
